Welcome to Breastfeeding Services at Beaumont Hospital - Farmington Hills.  Whether you are planning to breastfeed, or just want some information, you’ve come to the right place.  Our staff of Certified Lactation Consultants are here to help you.  We are conveniently located inside Beaumont - Farmington Hills, in the Labor & Delivery area.
Our clinic offers a variety of services to meet your needs.

Studies show shows breastfeeding is the best feeding method for babies and has significant benefits for mom as well.  Choosing how to feed your baby is a decision best made during your pregnancy.  Obtaining good information to make that decision is a great way to start.  Discuss feeding choices with your health care provider, talk to friends and family members who had successful experiences with breastfeeding, and contact a lactation consultant who can answer your specific questions.

At Beaumont - Farmington Hills we are happy to support you in your decision to breastfeed your baby.  Our unit philosophy encourages keeping your baby with you in your room, especially if you are nursing.   Breastfeeding is most successful if you nurse your baby immediately after delivery, and frequently during your hospital stay. In this way, you gain experience and allow us to assist you should you need help.  If your baby does not stay with you through the night, he/she will be brought to you for "demand" feedings, unless you request otherwise.

We recommend you exclusively breastfeed your baby for the first 2-4 weeks (no bottles). After this period, some women choose to provide breastmilk for their infants if they must be separated for a feeding, or when they go back to work.  Breastmilk can be obtained using manual expression, or by pumping with either a hand or electric breastpump. Supplies and equipment for expressing breastmilk can be purchased and/or rented through the breastfeeding clinic.  Call to find out if your insurance will cover the cost of an electric breastpump.
