Michigan Health & Safety Coalition Consumer Report
The Michigan Health & Safety Coalition began a project in December of 2001 that produced guidelines for hospitals which address eight clinical areas. All Michigan hospitals were invited to respond to a survey that assessed the extent to which each hospital engaged in activities that were consistent with the Coalition’s guidelines. The eight guidelines address the following clinical areas: open heart surgery, percutaneous coronary interventions, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy surgery, esophagectomy for cancer surgery, low birthweight infants, infants with congenital anomalies, and physician staffing in intensive care units.
