High-dose rate (HDR) Brachytherapy
- Farmington is the only cancer center in the area that offers two-day HDR brachytherapy treatment for prostate cancer and five-day MammoSite treatment for breast cancer. Learn more about HDR brachytherapy.
Used for lung cancer patients, this is a technologically advanced procedure that tracks a patient’s breathing cycle during radiation treatment. Using a 4D CT scan when simulating radiation treatment, the radiation oncologist is able to map out the anatomical location of a tumor at a specific point in the breathing cycle. A more precise dose of radiation is given to the tumor, sparing normal tissue.
Active Breathing Control (ABC)
Used for left sided breast patients and for tumors in the thorax and abdomen, ABC monitors and controls normal organ movement and reduces the volume of normal tissue that will be irradiated.
