Farmington Hills, Mich. (May 16, 2013)---In conjunction with National Nurses Week in this month, Botsford Hospital's nursing leaders recognized 19 extraordinary nurses at an awards banquet held at Ginopolis' BBQ Smokehouse in Farmington Hills. Botsford has a 24-year history of honoring nurses' amazing contributions to their patients, each other, and the profession through its Nursing Excellence Award. This award is given out to highlight high-achieving Botsford nurses for their skill, compassion, and commitment to nursing. It is one of the most important and prestigious awards Botsford bestows.
This year's 19 awardees include 11 staff nurses, a case manager, three nurse practitioners, a clinical nurse specialist, a charge nurse, a nursing manager, and the vice president of Patient Services/chief nursing officer. Each found ways to raise the bar for their peers and improve the quality of life for patients at Botsford Hospital.
"It is extremely gratifying to see this level of commitment to quality and education of our nurses," said Marge Hasler, RN, MSN, Botsford Hospital's vice president and chief nursing officer. "We at Botsford are proud to recognize our nurses' individual achievements."
Hasler, who is Botsford's top nurse, was herself honored for earning an advanced certification in nursing administration. The other recipients of Botsford Hospital's 2013 Nursing Excellence Awards are Mary Barringer, SueAnn Bettley, Ellen Blackney, Nancy Brege-Turner, Janice Cecil, Amy Drinkert, Sharon Edwards, Rhonda Falzon, Rebecca Gruber, Caroline Hayden, Amanda Kress, Kelly Minckiewicz, Amy Osterman, Tonya Scott, Kris Storks, Patricia White, Elaine Webber, and Cara Zitterman.
In the past year, the awardees achieved:
-Accolades from their profession for giving presentations at national conferences
-Case management certification
-Four-year nursing degrees
-Induction into Sigma Theta Tau, the national honor society for nursing
-Master's degrees to become nurse practitioners
-Master's degree in nursing education
-Master's degree with a graduate certificate in quality improvement
-Recertifications in adult psychiatric/mental health nursing, gastroenterology, and oncology
