Botsford Completes First Phase of Emergency Department Renovation

Farmington Hills, Mich., July 27, 2007 – A new waiting room was opened this week to accommodate patients at Botsford Hospital Emergency Center and their families. The construction was funded through The Botsford Foundation’s Share the Vision: Campaign for Advancing our Community’s Health.

Located in a new addition to the east wing of the hospital, the area accommodates 66 people; the old waiting room seated 38. Soft earth tones in the furnishings, natural wood surfaces and a large expanse of windows overlooking the hospital’s Tribute and Memorial garden contribute to a calming environment. In addition to providing more room for each patient and visitor, the arrangement of furniture in the long, narrow room fosters a sense of privacy by increasing the amount of space between families.

“It is gratifying that the first ‘investment’ of Share the Vision funds is in our Emergency Center,” said Margo Gorchow, Executive Director of The Botsford Foundation. “Emergency represents the front door to the hospital for many of our patients, and we are grateful to our donors who generously helped to provide the improvements.”
The 1,632 square feet addition was designed by Bowers & Rein Associates, Ann Arbor and construction was managed by AIM Construction, Livonia.

During the second phase of this renovation project, the former waiting room will be converted into an expanded triage area. Patients arriving at Botsford for emergency services will have more comfortable, private and expedited evaluation process.

The Botsford Hospital Emergency Center treated almost 60,000 patients in 2006. The Center is staffed by board-certified residency-trained specialists in Emergency Medicine.
