Holly Hufeld

Every July, Holly Hufeld, of Novi, dutifully went for her mammogram at Botsford Hospital. Noticing a change on her left breast while performing a self-exam, Holly soon learned she was positive for one of the most common kinds of breast cancer, invasive ductal cell carcinoma.

Surgeon Cindy Sandona, D.O., and OB/GYN Harvey Roth, D.O., recommended a total mastectomy on her left breast, yet Holly opted for an aggressive double mastectomy.

After successful surgery, Holly learned that she had had tubular cancer in her right breast. With the double mastectomy all the cancer was removed.

Holly knows how lucky she was to have a quick diagnosis, effective surgery and relatively comfortable recovery. She was back to work in less than two months. Then, for nine weeks, she worked and had chemotherapy.

All her treatment was performed by Botsford doctors. "The communication between Botsford Hospital's physicians and my family was excellent. We all knew what was going, were well informed and on the same page."
