Hunting Accident

I was recently involved in a very bad accident while deer hunting. I fell from a tree between 20-25 ft. I broke all my ribs, some of which were crushed. I collapsed both my lungs, fractured the upper portion of my spine, and separated my right shoulder. Which also included tearing the brachial nerve complex. There were also internal injuries. Fortunately for me I was brought to Botsford. The care I received from the day that I was brought in until the day I came home could not have been better.

The trauma team was amazing. Dr. Fertel & his team saved my life! I needed two surgeries both which were performed by Dr. Fertel. Part of these procedures included titanium plating of all my ribs and the removal of lower lobe of one lung. Both surgeries went perfectly. I was in the ICU unit for 5 weeks. Everyone there made my wife and I feel like family. Especially nurse Audrey & Daryl.

I moved to the 5th floor for a short time, and then to the physical therapy unit. My treatment in physical therapy went very well. I would like to mention Carmella, Sarah, Courtney and Evett (nurse aid). Of one thing I'm sure of without their care I would not have recovered as well or quickly as I did. Carmella even went as far as to send me a kind letter 2 weeks after coming home.

Other people that I would like to mention are Dr. Steven Katzman and Helene Rose (speech pathologist). They made me feel like I was more then a patient. They became friends.
Between extended family and myself we have been involved with many of the hospitals in SE Michigan. None of them even came close to the kind of care I received at Botsford. Their performances were amazing. I owe them my life! My family and I can't thank everyone enough, we will never forget all of you.

God Bless all of you,
