PET/CT creates a detailed image by combining two test, PET and CT. In a CT scan an x-ray beam moves in a circle around your body, creating a detailed image of an organ or structure. CT scans of internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels provide greater clarity than conventional x-ray exams. A PET scan is a powerful camera that reveals information about metabolism and cell function. The image is created by reading radiation given off from positrons. Positrons are tiny particles emitted from a radioactive substance administered prior to the test.
