IVP / Nephrotomogram

An intravenous pyelogram (IVP) is an X-ray test that provides pictures of the kidneys, the bladder, the ureters, and the urethra (urinary tract).

A nephrotomogram is a series of special x-rays of the kidneys. The x-rays are taken from different angles. They show the kidneys clearly, without the shadows of the organs around them.

Preparing for your test: morning appointment

Liquids only the day before your test, such as juice, pop, bullion, jello, coffee or tea. No dairy products.
At 8:00 p.m. the evening before your test, take 10 oz. of magnesium citrate (obtain from your pharmacy.)
Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, the night before your ultrasound.
The morning of your test, take one fleet enema.
Bring someone to drive you home from your appointment.

Preparing for your test: If you have an afternoon appointment.

Same preparation as above .
A light breakfast my be eaten (coffee or tea with toast -no milk.)
Nothing to eat or drink after 10:00 a.m. the day of your test.
