Imaging Services

Ultrasound

An ultrasound uses high-frequency sound waves to produce pictures of the inside of the body. Ultrasound exams do not use ionizing radiation (x-ray). Because ultrasound images are captured in real-time, they can show the structure and movement of the body's internal organs, as well as blood flowing through blood vessels.

Preparing for your test:

Abdomen Ultrasound:

• Do not eat or drink anything after midnight, the night before your ultrasound.

Pelvis Ultrasound:

• Starting 1-1/2 hours before your ultrasound, drink 32 oz. of water. You need to be finished drinking all 32 ounces of water 45 minutes before the You need to be finished drinking all 32 ounces of water 45 minutes before the ultrasound.
• Do not urinate.

Fetal Ultrasound:

• Family may be present after the ultrasound is completed.

Prostrate Ultrasound:

• One fleet enema 1 hour prior to your ultrasound.

Sonohysterogram: A sonohysterogram is done to evaluate the inside of the uterus by filling the uterus with fluid during a transvaginal ultrasound.

• Starting 1-1/2 hours before your ultrasound, drink 32 oz. of water. You need to be finished drinking all 32 ounces of water 45 minutes before the ultrasound.
• Do not urinate.

Breast Ultrasound:

• If an outside Mammogram is done, films or disc should be brought in.
