The General Surgery Residency Program at Botsford Hospital is a five-year program accredited by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). It is designed to meet all of the requirements of the AOA, the American College of Osteopathic Surgeons and the American Osteopathic Board of Surgery.
This program is affiliated with the Statewide Campus System with Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM). This means the General Surgery Program is jointly sponsored by MSUCOM and Botsford Hospital and the graduating resident receive a certificate of training from both Michigan State University and Botsford.
The program is designed to provide both didactic and operative experience and training in all aspects of General Surgery.
The affiliation with MSUCOM allows for an intensive academic exposure throughout the five years of the General Surgery Residency. This is implemented by consortia- sponsored ATLS training as well as an anatomy course. In addition, there are educational days every month throughout the five years of the General Surgery Residency at which time the residents are exposed to a high quality mixture of lectures, laboratories, and hands-on training facilities.
Applications, for First Years, may be submitted through ERAS beginning July the year prior to your graduation. Interviews are conducted on the third Monday in November. Candidates that have rotated at Botsford, prior to interview day, will be most favorably considered. If you are unable to spend a month here you are encouraged to schedule a two week rotation or arrange for weekend “shadowing” prior to interview day. It is about “best fit” for the program and the applicant.
Attention: Deadline for applications is October 1st . Applications not complete by the deadline, including passing scores for COMLEX 1 & 2, will NOT be considered for interviews. NO EXCEPTIONS!
