Program Description

The Obstetrics/Gynecology and Gynecologic Surgery Residency Program at Botsford Hospital is a four-year residency program which trains a resident to render full care to anyone with conditions that fall within the purview of practice in Obstetrics & Gynecology.

This residency program is designed to provide an educational experience in diagnoses and treatments particular to women - it is not designed to provide a hospital service. The basic principle of this program is a resident's progressive experience and the increasing responsibility given to him or her. Assisting is not a substitute for primary surgical experience and primary obstetrical experience in delivering patients and, therefore, direct experience is mandatory.

The program includes training in obstetrics, gynecology, infertility, reproductive endocrinology, gynecologic endocrinology, family planning and human sexuality, oncology and radiation therapy, perinatology, fetal maternal high-risk obstetrics, psychosomatics and all other non-operative and operative means of diagnosis and treatment. Emphasis is also placed on the application of osteopathic concepts with the treatment of the obstetric/gynecologic patient.

Applicants with the proper qualifications fill the residency of Obstetrics/Gynecology. Acceptable applicants are graduates of an approved college of osteopathic medicine.

Those physicians accepted for our program follow Option I of the new rules and regulations established by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) and are considered First Year OB/Gyn Residents.

All residents attend monthly conferences, as well as other various educational conferences, at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM) as part of our opti.
