Family Practice/NMM

Rotation Schedule

During the PGY-2 and PGY-3 years, residents spend one half day per week and four monthly rotations in the office of an OMM/NMM specialist.

Year 1
Elective 1 month
Emergency Medicine 1 month
General Surgery 1 month
ICU 1 month
Internal Medicine 2 months
Medicine Elective 1 month
Nights 1 month
OB/Gyn 1 month
Pediatrics 1 month
Surgery Elective 2 months
1/2 day in Family Practice clinic weekly  

 

PGY-2
  • Continuity clinic schedule: two half-days in Family Practice continuity clinic; one half-day in NMM continuity clinic.
  • Present two lectures per year on NMM topics. Target audiences include FP residents, house staff, MSU and community groups.
  • Participate monthly in NMM lectures as assistants and table trainers.
  • Attend monthly journal club on NMM with the NMM program journal club. This is in addition to FP program journal club.
  • Attend weekly didactics with NMM program participants.
  • Complete the required four months rotation in NMM.
Year 2
ENT 1 month
Family Medicine 1 month
Emergency Medicine 1 month
Internal Medicine (general) 1 month
Internal Medicine: GI (must becompleted prior to ambulatory surgery month) 1 month
Internal Medicine Subspecialty Elective:Pick one of two: Pulmonary or Cardiology 1 month
OB/Gyn 1 month
OMM* 4 months
Pediatrics 1 month
Total 52 weeks
Family Practice Office: 2 half days per week
OMT Office: 1 half day per week

*Two months of the 12 total NMM rotation months may be spent as a dedicated inpatient OMM rotation. Three (3) NMM selective rotations must be completed in the identified specialty areas of Neurology, Rheumatology, Orthopedics and Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

 

PGY-3

OMM Selective/Sports Medicine 1 month
Ophthalmology 2 weeks
Orthopedics 1 month
Pediatrics 1 month
Urology 2-3 weeks
Total 52 weeks

PGY-4

  • Continuity clinic schedule: two half-days in Family Practice continuity clinic; one half-day in NMM continuity clinic.
  • Spend one clinic 1/2 day in continuity care at a FP clinic seeing patients and/or precepting students or residents as needs of the FP program dictate.
  • Present two lectures per year on NMM topics. Target audiences include FP residents, house staff, MSU and community groups.
  • Participate monthly in NMM lectures as assistants and table trainers.
  • Attend monthly journal club on NMM with the NMM program participants. This is in addition to FP program journal club.
  • Attend weekly didactics with NMM program participants.
  • Complete the required four months rotation in NMM.
  • Satisfactory complete a paper on NMM/primary care topic on subject mutually agreed upon by resident and FP and NMM program directors.
  • Complete eligibility requirements for ACOFP and AOBNMM examinations.

Year 4
Elective 3 months
Internal Medicine (subspecialty) 1 month
OMM* 4 months
Orthopedics/Sports Medicine 1 month
Pediatrics 1 month
PM&R/Sports Medicine 1 month
Rheumatology 1 month
Total 52 weeks
Family Practice Office: 2 half days per week
OMT Office: 1 half day per week

Applicants are encouraged to rotate at the OMM and FP training clinics to gain exposure to the residency program and to interview for the program.
