Program Description

The OMM Plus One Residency at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills provides one year of training in OMM for residents who have previously completed their postdoctoral training in an AOA approved specialty. This program meets AOA requirements for OMM certification. In addition, the program is part of the Statewide Osteopathic Principles and Practices Consortium through the Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (MSUCOM). This affiliation provides residents with a unique opportunity to receive hands-on and didactic training through all of the member hospitals and MSUCOM.

This program includes rotations in sports medicine, orthopedics, physical medicine and rehabilitation and OMM. It provides three months of OMM rotations which can be either outpatient or inpatient based, as well as three half-days of OMM continuity clinic. Since residents in the Plus One Residency must have previously completed training in an accredited AOA specialty, the curriculum is designed to provide year-long, intensive training in topics in OMM.

The resident develops skills as an educator and researcher, achieves understanding of the integration of multidisciplinary patient care, and gains an understanding of administering cost-effective, excellent quality care. The resident provides lectures to residents and house staff during the residency. At the end of the Plus One Residency, the resident is eligible to sit for the AOBNMM boards.
