Program Description

The Gastroenterology Residency/Fellowship at Beaumont Hospital, Farmington Hills is a three-year program structured and designed to train each clinical gastroenterology resident to function as a consultant and teacher in all aspects of gastroenterology. He or she also becomes proficient in most areas liver disease.

The program will be applying for ACGME accreditation in 2016, and is diligently working on their application. Once the application is submitted, the program will have pre-accreditation. After the site visit and review by the RC, the program will hopefully receive accreditation through the Single Accreditation System.

The clinical rotations and curriculum provide the resident well-rounded exposure to all aspects of clinical gastroenterology. He or she achieves competency in gastroenterologic, diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy. The resident is also exposed to clinical nutrition.

Giving lectures and participating on rounds is an integral part of the teaching program and are part of the resident's responsibilities. These responsibilities increase commensurate each residents' cognitive skills.

Each resident is held as a resource to his or her community hospital, as well as to the osteopathic profession.

Following the satisfactory completion of the program, the resident is board eligible for certification in gastroenterology by the American Osteopathic Association through the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine.

Fellow Call Schedule: 13 nights per month
