Fewer treatments: For patients with prostate cancer, traditional radiation takes 5-7 weeks – high-dose radiation brachytherapy at Botsford takes only two days. Breast cancer patients can return to their everyday lives after only five days of treatment, rather than seven weeks. The treatment takes just minutes to deliver.
Maximizing accuracy: High-dose radiation brachytherapy works by inserting a tiny high-dose radiation source – the size of a grain of rice – directly into the tumor. This allows the maximum amount of radiation to be delivered precisely to where the cancer is most likely to occur – the place where it is needed most.
Fewer side effects: Because high-dose radiation brachytherapy delivers radiation directly to the tumor, the surrounding healthy tissue is less likely to be effected.
