She’s a wife and a mother of two busy kids who recently started her own business (selling healthy snacks with a motivational message). She’s also a board certified internal medicine physician who specializes in integrative medicine and eating disorders at Botsford hospital and at Midwest Internal Medicine Associates. She sounds like a busy lady, and she is! Yet somehow she also manages to train for and participate in marathons and triathlons.
And she doesn’t just participate, she places well. Recently she was the fastest female over 40 from Michigan in the Boston Marathon. She was also the third fastest female from Michigan overall. In her last triathlon, she swam 2.4 miles, bicycled 112 miles and ran 26.2 miles…all in one day! Dr. Melissa Sundermann is an inspiration.
Dr. Sundermann takes healthy living seriously and she practices what she preaches. Her patients can look up to her as a great example. Plus she’s clearly a master at time management! She always finds the time to fit exercise into her routine, whether it is skiing, hiking, biking or her favorite, running.
Dr. Sundermann says we can all find a little time to add some kind of activity to our life and enjoy better health. Her advice: Prioritize your time to fit in a physical activity that you love. 99% of the time, you’ll be in a better mood after you do it and it will be much easier to make it a part of your lifestyle. Once it is a part of your lifestyle it will become a habit and a priority.
