Botsford News Release
Farmington Hills, Mich. (November 7, 2012)---Steve Barnaby, chairman of the Botsford Hospital Board of Directors welcomes newly-elected board member Linda S. Hotchkiss, M.D.: "Dr. Hotchkiss' membership on Botsford's board brings an impressive record of professional accomplishment, ranging from academic medical centers to multi-state systems. I look forward to her input on shaping Botsford Hospital's future and her collaboration in making decisions that help enhance the health care landscape in our community."
After graduating from Harvard Medical School, Dr. Hotchkiss completed her internship at Children's Hospital of Michigan in Detroit and her psychiatry residency at Sinai Hospital in Detroit, where she later joined the medical staff. While maintaining an outpatient practice and an inpatient consultation practice, Dr. Hotchkiss led developmental assessments on neonatal ICU graduates in one of the first developmental assessment clinics in metropolitan Detroit. After leading that hospital's residency training program, she became the first woman to chair a large clinical department at Sinai.
Following the merger of several hospitals with the local academic medical center, Dr. Hotchkiss led the consolidation of the new health system's psychiatry residency programs as associate chairperson and clinical chief of the Wayne State University School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Neurosciences. She established the position of chief medical officer of the then new Detroit Medical Center, comprised of a safety-net academic medical center and eight other hospitals. During these years at DMC, Dr. Hotchkiss designed and implemented sweeping changes in physician contracting and quality improvement.
In 2001, Dr. Hotchkiss was named senior vice president of clinical and physician services for Trinity Health, a multi-state, 44-hospital, $5.7 billion health system. She led system-level care management strategies, physician adoption of systems for electronic medical records and computerized physician order entry, and transformed physicians' role in the strategic sourcing process for high-ticket clinical capital items. In 2007, Dr. Hotchkiss undertook an evaluation of mental and other health services in the country of Micronesia for Trinity Health International and then took an opportunity to reconnect with frontline clinical practice.
In 2008, she became vice president of academic affairs for Aurora Health System in Wisconsin, leading the Aurora University of Wisconsin Faculty Medical Group and system-wide academic affairs. With oversight of 12 clinics, a hospital group, 50 faculty members and 150 residents, Dr. Hotchkiss was responsible for her group's clinical and financial performance and the integration of physician education and training into the fabric of a large, integrated delivery system.
More recently, Dr. Hotchkiss returned full-time to her home state of Michigan where she inaugurated the position of chief learning officer for Genesys Health System, Grand Blanc. In addition to teaching at Michigan State University and Wayne State University, Dr. Hotchkiss currently serves as regional medical director for WellPoint, Inc., one of the largest health insurers in the United States. She and her husband live in Grosse Pointe Park where they raised two children.
