Botsford Hospital Laboratory staff selected Jean A. Martin, ASCP, for the 2010 Joseph H. Langnas, D.O. Memorial Laboratory Enrichment Award. Martin, a 33-year Botsford veteran, holds the position of laboratory information systems (LIS) coordinator.
“I have the utmost respect for Jean. She has played a significant role in ensuring that our laboratory at Botsford Hospital has the same high-tech robotic and computerized systems typically only found in national laboratory companies or major universities,” said Gil Herman, M.D., Ph.D., director of laboratory medicine and chairman of pathology.
This award from Martin’s coworkers honors her years of hard work behind the scenes installing and maintaining laboratory software and servers and interfacing Botsford’s system to the ever-expanding number of other hospital computer systems.
“When I attend national LIS meetings, the first thing anyone says to me is ‘Say hello to Jean for me.’ I hear this from National Institutes of Health leaders and LIS managers who work at hospitals all over the country,” Dr. Herman said. “She is an asset to Botsford Hospital. We are so lucky to have Jean on our team.”
This award is named for the former medical director of Botsford Hospital’s Laboratory and chairman of the its Pathology Department who passed away in 2005. The Langnas family established the award to support the attendance of a Botsford Hospital lab employee at a professional society educational meeting.
