Botsford Employee Wellness Program Shows Healthy Results

Farmington Hills, Mich. (November 16, 2010)---In 2007, Botsford Hospital started its employee wellness program called B-HIP (Botsford-Health Improvement Plan). Since then Botsford has been committed to improving its employees’ overall health by offering a variety of health and wellness programs throughout the year including an annual health risk assessment (HRA). 
Botsford has been working with Healthy Ventures, an Orchard Lake based preventative health care company, to offer confidential HRAs that consist of health, weight, waist and blood pressure measurements, combined with a written questionnaire and a simple glucose/total cholesterol blood test. 697 Botsford employees took the assessments earlier this year to learn about their current health risks and compare their results from the past three years. 
Stacy Brand, chair of the B-HIP committee, says, “This year we were most interested to see how our top six risk factors have changed. We were pleased to learn that our overall health is improving.” 
Brand says, “Our plan for 2011 is to focus on these areas with educational and fun programs for all employees. We will be offering incentives to our employees who work to improve their health and attend multiple health activities throughout the year.” 
Brand continues, “As health care workers focused on caring for others, we often forget to take care of our own health. B-HIP programs are one small way that employees can think about themselves. As a team, we can make a difference in health and be an example to our community and patients on what healthy living is all about.”
