Botsford News Release
Farmington Hills, Mich. (October 19, 2010)---Six local women are celebrating National Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a bra decorating contest to benefit Botsford Hospital patients who need transportation to their mammograms or breast cancer treatment appointments.
The women who have their own craft group decided to get friends and members of the community to decorate bras as part of a fundraiser to celebrate breast health. They took the lead from one of the women’s mother who is part of a craft group in South Carolina that created a book, Artful Bras. The book featured decorated bras in support of breast cancer awareness and was then sold to raise money for transportation for mammograms.
The local crafters joined forces with members of Forest Park Homeowners Association in Farmington Hills to sell 50 bras that will be decorated and displayed on Saturday, October 23 during Milkshakes and Margaritas for Mammograms.
The event will include judging of the bras in the categories of most humorous, most likely to elicit tears and most original. Milkshakes will be available for $3 from 3 to 5 p.m. and drinking cups (displayed in bra sizes A, B, and refillable DD) for margaritas will be available for $3, $5 or $15. Each purchase will also entitle the person to three tickets so they can vote for the bras in the various categories.
In addition to drinks and the bra contest, there will be a bouncer, music and a chili cook-off with a taste of 10 kinds of chili for $10. For questions about this event, please contact Mollie Brendel at (248) 615-4341.
The Forest Park Homeowners Association is located off Nine Mile between Middlebelt and Inkster at 22314 Tredwell Ave. in Farmington Hills. A special thank you to McDonalds, Wendy’s, Discount Drinks, El Nibble Nook, Acme Partyworks and Breeze-Freeze for donating items for the event.
