Botsford News Release
Farmington Hills, Mich. (July 7, 2010)---Botsford Hospital, an independent community hospital, has embarked on an 18-month journey to implement electronic medical record (EMR) technology with a new health care information system that also includes revenue cycle and finance components.
This fully secure system will go live at Botsford Hospital on October 3, 2011, providing access to patient medical records from any location within the hospital, including its ancillary treatment centers located in western Wayne and Oakland Counties. In future, patient medical records will also be accessible by physician practices owned by Botsford Hospital and its affiliated independent physicians who have implemented ambulatory electronic medical record systems.
Botsford Hospital purchased its Paragonâ system from McKesson. For community hospitals, Paragon was rated the #1 information system by KLAS in 2006-2009*. ACS, the hospital’s IT provider, will be installing and supporting the technology.
“Our decision to implement Paragon at Botsford fits our corporate strategic plan to remain independent. I believe this system will give us an edge to not only retain current patients and health caregivers, but also to grow our base for both,” says Paul E. LaCasse, D.O., M.P.H., President and CEO, Botsford Health Care. “We were impressed with what the Paragon system could offer: automated safety checks to prevent medical errors, improved quality and safety of care, decreased costs and errors, timely physician access to patient medical information and quicker access to test results.”
Botsford Hospital’s goals for this new health care information system include:
· Offering ease of access and continuity of information to meet the needs of patients, health care providers and employees
· Improving patient safety, patient-caregiver communication and patient outcomes
· Reducing medical errors
· Having a fully integrated personal health record
· Improving pharmacy, nursing and ancillary workflow
· Preparing to meet the “meaningful use” criteria from the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA) of 2009
· Continuously reviewing and revising clinical and business processes to improve outcomes
*KLAS is company that provides independent monitoring of vendor performance.
