Botsford News Release
Farmington Hills, Mich. (May 14, 2010)---A partnership between Botsford Hospital and the South Redford School District is bringing a new health care alternative for families in the school district.
The South Redford School Based Health Center is designed to serve the health care needs of the 10 to 21 years old population of the school district. Located at John D. Pierce Middle School, the Center opened this month. A licensed nurse practitioner will provide the care. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday.
“We expect to provide treatment for minor acute illnesses like ear infections and sore throats as well as monitoring chronic conditions such as diabetes or asthma,” said Ron Szumski, Botsford Hospital’s Clinic System Executive. “Parents and guardians are always involved in the health care process,” he emphasized.
The school-based health center is like a primary care physician’s office. With parents’ permission, the center will provide basic services such as immunizations and vaccines, nutrition advice, and disease screening. Students will receive medical attention when they need it, which will help avoid trips to the emergency department.
An Open House at the health center is planned for Thursday, May 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. with a ribbon cutting at 6 p.m. The public is invited. John D. Pierce Middle School is located at 25605 Orangelawn in Redford Township.
