Farmington Hills, Mich. (January 20, 2009)---Alexa Simkow, RN, MSN, has joined Botsford Hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich., as surgical services nursing director. She came to Botsford from St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo, Ohio, where she was administrative director of perioperative services. Prior to that, Simkow spent 17 years at Henry Ford Health System, gaining management experience in surgery, as well as directing the emergency room, maternal and child health, and quality management.
Worth noting is Simkow’s work with the American Osteopathic Association as a health care facilities program inspector. She regularly joins an AOA team of accreditation inspectors that makes surprise visits to hospitals that are AOA accredited.
“I am impressed with how Botsford, a smaller-size hospital, treats quality as its number one priority,” Simkow says. “It’s apparent to me that we gain big results on quality measures because we value our patients and not because accreditors tell us we must.”
Simkow gained her nursing education at Wayne State University and Madonna University, completing the bachelor and master of science in nursing degrees respectively. She is a Livonia resident.
Botsford Hospital, an independent 330-bed community teaching hospital in Farmington Hills, Mich., was founded in 1965. Nationally recognized for quality, safety and medical education programs, Botsford has received the 2007 Governor’s Award for Improving Patient Safety and Quality of Care in the Hospital Setting, and, in 2007, a three-year recertification as a Chest Pain Center from the Society of Chest Pain Centers.
