Farmington Hills, MI (August 1, 2008)--- In July, Botsford Hospital upgraded to a new, state-of-the-art high definition (HD) magnetic resonance system from GE Healthcare. The GE 1.5T EXCITE® HD system will allow doctors to view high quality images to evaluate a variety of conditions including musculoskeletal, neurological, genitourinary and gastrointestinal diseases.
The Excite software platform paired with the HD technology improves image quality, while delivering advanced applications to handle the most challenging cases. With this new technology, images are captured faster, reducing the amount of time patients have to remain still.
Rocky Saenz, D.O., the Director of M.R.I. at Botsford Hospital, says, “Often time patients get nervous and feel claustrophobic during the MRI causing them to move. With older technology, the slightest movement could impact the results of the test, which increases the likelihood of rescans. The new system isn’t as susceptible to patient movement and the period of time for the test is also shorter.”
The new MRI unit provides optimal diagnostic capabilities for the assessment of the abdomen, brain, spine, prostate and vascular regions, along with orthopedic imaging including ankle, elbow, feet, hip and wrist. Looking to the future, Botsford is also planning to add breast MRI. “The system we have is capable of providing advanced breast MRI,” says, Dr. Saenz. “We are currently preparing to offer this test in the near future, possibly at the time Botsford’s new cancer center opens.”
In addition to the new system, Botsford has implemented a new patient scheduling process featuring faster appointments. The tests are also convenient, as they are offered seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on the hospital campus in Farmington Hills and from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Fridays at the Botsford Center for Health Improvement in Novi.
A doctor’s prescription is required to schedule an MRI at Botsford Hospital. To learn more or to find a Botsford doctor, please contact Botsford’s HealthMatch at (877) 442-7900.
