Botsfords Trainers Help South Lyon Resident Reach Goal

Novi, MI (May 30, 2008)--- Fifteen months ago, Tony Scappaticci, a 59-year-old South Lyon resident, was feeling “lazy” and needed a change in his life.  He learned about the Botsford Center for Health Improvement (BCHI) on the radio and decided to investigate.

BCHI is the first medical model fitness center in Metro Detroit.  More than a health club, the Botsford Center for Health Improvement offers a “medical model” approach to all of its programs, integrating fitness, lifestyle and behavior management with medical and clinical practices.  The staff at BCHI helped Scappaticci reach his goal to feel better and stay healthy.  However, he didn’t stop with just getting healthier- he decided to hike the Grand Canyon.

Since becoming a member at BCHI, Scappaticci gained approximately 12 pounds of lean muscle mass and lost 21 pounds of fat weight.  He also decreased his body fat composition by 10%.  In early December, Scappaticci began training to hike the Grand Canyon.  The staff at BCHI set up a personalized exercise program to help him train for his hike, which took place in April.  In addition to this personalized program, Scappaticci received help from BCHI’s personal training staff.

How does Scappaticci feel about his accomplishment?  Scappaticci says, “I am elated about my success.  With the help of BCHI staff, I was able to improve my quality of life, enjoy my grandkids and have a better outlook on life.  Showing up everyday to exercise was a major obstacle, but I succeeded.”

Monica Pagels, Manager of BCHI, says, “Starting an exercise program is often the hardest step for most people.  Our staff understands that and works to set up a program that fits your goals and lifestyle.”  So, what’s Scappaticci’s tip for starting an exercise program?  Scappaticci says, “It must click mentally, or you won’t be successful.”
