Farmington Hills, MI (February 2, 2007)--- Julie Brown, a Novi resident, has always had a connection with Botsford Hospital. She was born there 37 years ago, and she has always seen Botsford doctors. Any surgical procedures or emergency care has taken place at Botsford. In addition, her mom has worked there for over 20 years.
Julie understands the importance of taking care of her health. Because of her risk for diabetes (her father and grandmother have the condition) and a battle with weight issues, she talked to her physician (Deirdre Wickham, D.O.) about seeing a dietitian. Julie says, “The fear of diabetes, or worse, made me decide to see a dietitian. Denise Holmes, my dietitian at Botsford, has taught me so much about a healthy diet.”
The biggest thing that helped Julie to start losing weight was exercising. She started with the treadmill and weight machines. Julie says, “It took me awhile because of my stubbornness, but I eventually started using the stairmaster and the elliptical machines. This, combined with my eating plan from Denise, is what has given me my current success- I’ve lost 30 pounds. I know it’s what will also work with my future goals.”
In order to keep with her future goals, Julie has decided to maintain her exercise program by joining the Botsford Center for Health Improvement in Novi. “The staff at Botsford has banned together to form a ‘team’ of fitness and nutrition experts to help me maintain my program, which was never easy in the past. Losing weight wasn’t easy, but nothing worth having is. I guess what keeps me going is the fear of letting down my ‘team’ as well as myself.”
