Farmington Hills, MI (April 11, 2006)--- Botsford General Hospital has received the Five Star Community Investor Award from the American Cancer Society for its role in the fight against cancer in southeastern Michigan.
The award was presented to Botsford’s oncology staff by Liz Yockey, Quality of Life Director for the American Cancer Society. In accepting the award for Botsford, Rhonda Falzon, R.N., nursing unit manager said, “We are honored by this recognition of the staff’s dedication to cancer prevention, screening and treatment programs.”
To qualify for the award, Botsford partnered with the American Cancer Society in five of the society’s outreach, education and support initiatives. “We supported the initiatives that reflected Botsford’s mission in the community,” said Ms. Falzon. “These included tobacco prevention and cessation programs, referring our patients to the American Cancer Society for transportation services to and from chemotherapy or radiation treatments, community screenings, helping patients connect with American Cancer Society breast cancer peer support groups and maintaining a Web site link that allows our patients direct assess to the information and educational materials on the American Cancer Society’s Web site.”
